Political analyst Adi Prayitno from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta forecasts that cabinet reshuffles under President Prabowo Subianto will persist, driven by performance issues, loyalty concerns, and intensifying political dynamics ahead of the political year. He notes that this approach contrasts with former President Joko Widodo's tenure, where fewer reshuffles occurred, and warns ministers against complacency as the president holds ultimate authority in a presidential system. The ongoing changes reflect coalition tensions and could extend through multiple stages, akin to an extended soap opera.

Jakarta - Political observer Adi Prayitno from UIN Syarif
Hidayatullah Jakarta predicts that cabinet reshuffles in President
Prabowo Subianto’s administration will continue in the future. This
comes amid political dynamics expected to intensify ahead of the
political year. “Reshuffles are inevitable, something certain. Due to
many factors. It could be due to performance factors. It could be due to
loyalty factors. It could be due to political factors. Because next year
will already enter the political year. Even perhaps by the end of this
year, it will already be the real political year,” Adi said in the
Gaspol Kompas.com YouTube programme on Friday (1/5/2026). This number is
higher compared to the first term of Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko
Widodo (Jokowi), who only conducted four reshuffles in five years.
According to him, this condition shows that reshuffles in the Prabowo
era tend to be done gradually or “in instalments”. He predicts that it
is not impossible for reshuffles to occur again in the near future, even
continuing to subsequent stages. “So for me, this is not the end of
everything. The fifth edition of the cabinet reshuffle might be followed
by the seventh, eighth, ninth editions, and so on. Like a soap opera
with multiple seasons,” Adi stated. He assesses that inter-party
dynamics within the coalition will become more pronounced as the
political year approaches. “Political parties are starting to fight for
their respective political interests. The parliamentary threshold, does
it apply only to the central DPR? Does it apply to provinces? That could
become a trigger for how relationships will start to have dynamic
gimmicks emerging within the government coalition,” he explained. In
addition, performance factors are also an important consideration. Adi
alluded to several ministers who have recently come under public
scrutiny, either due to performance issues or other matters. Therefore,
he reminds ministers, deputy ministers, and agency heads not to feel
they are in a safe zone. “Never think that being a minister, deputy
minister, or agency head means you’re in a comfort zone, sir. Anything
can happen. After all, you’re the president’s aides. It’s up to the
boss, right? He can replace you anytime. So don’t sleep too soundly,” he
said. According to Adi, in a presidential system, the decision to
reshuffle is entirely in the hands of the president. Therefore, cabinet
officials must be prepared for the possibility of replacement at any
time.
",
