President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming have\nproven capable of safeguarding Indonesia\u2019s energy security amid external\npressures during their first two years in office through the B50 policy,\nan academic said.<\/p>\n
Ali Ahmudi Achyak, an energy expert from the University of Indonesia,\nsaid the policy, which requires diesel fuel to contain 50 percent palm\noil-based biodiesel, helps ensure adequate energy supplies for the\ncountry.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government developed B40 and then B50 in pursuit of [energy]\navailability,\u201d he remarked when contacted by ANTARA from Jakarta on\nThursday.<\/p>\n
He underscored energy supply sufficiency as a key parameter of a\ncountry\u2019s energy security, noting that the government has sought to\nstrengthen it through both the B50 program and E10, a policy requiring\ngasoline to contain a 10 percent blend of plant-based ethanol.<\/p>\n
The two initiatives, Achyak said, serve as key instruments for\nIndonesia to mitigate supply disruption risks arising from transit\nrestrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world\u2019s most important\nenergy chokepoints.<\/p>\n
In this regard, he stressed that the government must take all\nnecessary measures to ensure adequate energy supplies amid global\nuncertainty.<\/p>\n
The academic identified affordability as another key component of\nenergy security, saying that Prabowo and Gibran had demonstrated their\ncommitment to maintaining fuel prices despite rising global energy\ncosts.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven though the world is witnessing fluctuating oil prices, the\ngovernment continues rolling out measures, including a decision not to\nincrease subsidized fuel prices,\u201d Achyak said.<\/p>\n
The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said biodiesel distribution\nunder the B50 mandate had reached 75\u201380 percent nationwide as of\nAug.\u00a031.<\/p>\n
Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation\nEniya Listiani Dewi said on that date that the ministry would continue\nmonitoring distribution and evaluating the program to ensure its\neffective implementation.<\/p>\n
The government aims to implement the B50 mandate at all fuel stations\nby October 2026.<\/p>\n
