        "content": "<p>President Prabowo Subianto stressed that Indonesia is now in a\nsituation where it must survive. He made the remarks while addressing a\nplenary Cabinet meeting at Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on\nWednesday (21 October 2026).<\/p>\n<p>The President began by saying Indonesia had always been a target of\npowers and countries seeking to take its natural wealth. When he\nreceived his mandate and was inaugurated on 20 October 2024, Prabowo\nsaid he faced challenges and difficulties with courage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can no longer face this by being too na\u00efve or trying to please\nothers. We are now being forced to choose between facing difficulties\nand facing reality, the essence of which is to save the wealth of the\nnation and the Indonesian people,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the alternative was to continue a system that allowed\nIndonesia\u2019s wealth to be taken abroad year after year through practices\nhe described as fraudulent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur nation has been deceived, our people have been deceived, our\ngovernment has been deceived. Legal and criminal law experts will\nconfirm this. Is there any political leader or legal expert who would\nstand up and say that smuggling is not a violation?\u201d Prabowo asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSmuggling is like stabbing our nation, stabbing our body. It is an\nattempt to kill our economy. Killing our economy means killing our\nnation,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) also\nreferred to various forms of smuggling into and out of the country,\ninvolving goods including narcotics, tin, gold, coal, timber, fuel and\nfertiliser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow can anyone say that we should preserve a system that allows\nsmuggling to continue? The key point I want to make, and have made\nrepeatedly, is that we are now in a situation where we have to survive;\nwe have to hold on and protect our wealth,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur wealth, our natural resources, are like our blood. If we keep\nlosing blood, our body cannot survive. We are in a situation where we\nhave to survive, and it is not only us: many countries around the world\nare facing the same thing. In a survival situation, national interests\nand the interests of the people come first,\u201d he added.<\/p>",
