Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed a desire to eliminate long waiting queues for Hajj pilgrims, prompting the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to explore new schemes. Deputy Minister Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak revealed that the government is considering a direct ticketing system based on Saudi Arabia's quota, allowing immediate registration without years of waiting, while ensuring protections for the current 5.7 million queued applicants. This initiative aims to realise the President's vision but is still under formulation, with current waits of 26 years for regular pilgrims and 6 years for special ones.

Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of
Indonesia, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, stated that the government is
currently studying schemes for organising Hajj pilgrimage without
queues.

Dahnil explained that the idea stems from President Prabowo
Subianto’s wish for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims not to wait in queues for
decades in the future.

“Now the President wants us to think about how to make Hajj without
queuing. That’s what we’re formulating, which was also conveyed by the
Minister last night,” said Dahnil at the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah
office, Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (9/4/2026).

“The more registrants there are, the longer the queue,” said
Dahnil.

Therefore, the government is examining the possibility of
implementing a model similar to a direct ticket purchase system from the
quota given by Saudi Arabia.

“So we are given a quota of 200,000 by Saudi Arabia. Then we set the
price, no need to queue. Each person books directly, whoever gets it,
they depart,” he said.

“Of course, we must ensure protection for those who have been queuing
so far. There are currently 5.7 million people queuing to perform Hajj.
How to protect them? That’s what we’re working on,” he said.

Therefore, Dahnil emphasised that this idea is not yet a decision
because many aspects need to be considered.

“But this is not a decision, we’re continuously developing it so that
the President’s desire for queue-free Hajj can be realised,” he
stated.

Currently, prospective Indonesian Hajj pilgrims need to wait 26 years
for regular Hajj and 6 years for special Hajj.
",
