State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has revealed the reason President\nPrabowo Subianto personally inspected the handling of forest and land\nfires (karhutla) in Kalimantan. Prabowo, according to Pras, wanted to\ndirectly check on the firefighting efforts.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe wanted to monitor first-hand the process of handling the forest\nand land fires, which this year coincides with a fairly extreme or\nfairly dry El Ni\u00f1o,\u201d Pras told reporters at Tjilik Riwut Airport,\nCentral Kalimantan, on Saturday (22\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
During visits to Pontianak, West Kalimantan, and Palangkaraya,\nCentral Kalimantan, Prabowo held limited meetings on fire handling with\nrelevant regional officials. Prabowo received reports and identified\nneeds still required for extinguishing hotspots.<\/p>\n
Pras said several matters were decided directly by Prabowo, including\nthe addition of equipment such as water bombing helicopters, water\npumps, and borehole pumps.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the requirements needed in the field, based on the supplies we\nhave, were directly decided by the President to be pushed forward,\nincluding the dispatch of additional tanker trucks and fire engines,\u201d\nPras said.<\/p>\n
Prabowo also reminded regional governments to promptly assist\naffected communities. Furthermore, Prabowo expressed appreciation for\nall parties working hard to tackle the forest and land fires.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe also conveyed his gratitude to all ranks who have worked\nextraordinarily hard day and night, battling to extinguish the fires,\nfrom the TNI, Polri, BNPB, BMKG, as well as many volunteers, and the\nManggala Agni from the Ministry of Forestry were also involved. He\nexpressed his highest appreciation and respect to all those working hard\nto extinguish these forest and land fires,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In addition, Prabowo reminded all parties not to tire of urging the\npublic to avoid activities that could trigger hotspots. Not only is it\ndangerous, but it can also have major consequences that harm the\npublic.<\/p>\n
