Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono has\nrevealed that President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to launch the\noperations of the Red and White Village\/Urban Ward Cooperatives in May\n2026. The event is planned to take place in Nganjuk Regency, East Java,\nalthough the schedule remains subject to change.<\/p>\n
The launch plans, Ferry explained, were discussed during a\ncross-ministry and agency coordination meeting held at the Ministry of\nVillages\u2019 office. The meeting was attended by the Coordinating Minister\nfor Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, the President Director of Agrinas\nPangan Joao Angelo De Sousa, and the Deputy Commander of the Indonesian\nNational Armed Forces.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just had a meeting at the Ministry of Villages\u2019 office. There was\nthe Coordinating Minister for Food, the Deputy Commander of the TNI, the\nPresident Director of Agrinas\u2014it has been conveyed that the launch is\nplanned for 16 May, this is still tentative in Nganjuk Regency, East\nJava. But this is tentative, so it\u2019s just a plan,\u201d Ferry said at the\nMinistry of Cooperatives\u2019 office in Jakarta on Monday (11\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
In the initial phase, the government will operate around 1,000 Red\nand White Village\/Urban Ward Cooperatives, which have been fully\ncompleted physically. Ferry explained that these cooperatives already\nhave supporting facilities ranging from warehouses and retail outlets to\nother operational equipment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ones whose operations will be launched are approximately 1,000\ncooperatives out of around 7,200, I think, that have been 100 percent\ncompleted in terms of physical construction, warehouses, retail outlets,\nand equipment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The government is also working on tens of thousands of other\ncooperatives that are currently under construction. Ferry stated that\nthe current government focus is no longer just on building structures\nbut on ensuring that the cooperatives truly operate and provide economic\nbenefits to village communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cOut of the around 7,200 with 100% completed buildings, there are\naround 25,000 cooperatives being built, so insyaallah they can be\nfinished. But now we are concentrating on the operations,\u201d he\ncontinued.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that the Red and White Village\/Urban Ward Cooperatives\nprogramme is designed as a driver of the people\u2019s economy, not merely a\nphysical construction project. Therefore, the involvement of ministries,\nagencies, and state-owned enterprises is deemed important to accelerate\nthe cooperative business ecosystem in villages.<\/p>\n
Ferry also dismissed the notion that the phased launch of 1,000\ncooperatives indicates obstacles in the project. According to him, the\ngovernment is intentionally implementing the programme in stages and in\na measured manner.<\/p>\n
