President Prabowo Subianto summoned the Commander of the Indonesian\nNational Armed Forces (TNI), General Agus Subiyanto, and the Chief of\nthe National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to his residence in\nHambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Tuesday (1\/9).<\/p>\n
The meeting addressed developments in the national situation,\nspecifically the management of forest and land fires (karhutla) across\nseveral regions in Sumatra and Kalimantan.<\/p>\n
This meeting was convened prior to the President\u2019s departure for\nRussia to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in\nVladivostok.<\/p>\n
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that during the meeting,\nPrabowo received reports regarding the current conditions on the ground,\nas well as the measures being taken for the handling and control of the\nforest fires.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe meeting discussed developments in the national situation as well\nas the handling of forest and land fires in several regions of Sumatra\nand Kalimantan,\u201d Teddy wrote in a post on the official Instagram account\nof the Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday (1\/9).<\/p>\n
Teddy noted that the government continues to strengthen coordination\nto ensure that the handling of forest fires is carried out swiftly and\nin an integrated manner. Coordination is also being conducted to\nanticipate the expansion of fire hotspots in various regions.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Prabowo received updates on field developments,\nincluding firefighting and fire control efforts.<\/p>\n
Several officials were also present at the meeting, including\nMinister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Minister of State Secretary\nPrasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Deputy Chief of\nNational Police Commissioner Pol Dedi Prasetyo, and the Head of Metro\nJaya Regional Police Commissioner Pol Asep Edi Suheri.<\/p>\n
Also in attendance were the Head of Intelligence (Kabaintelkam)\nCommissioner Pol Yuda Gustawan, Deputy Commander of the TNI General TNI\nTandyo Budi Revita, Head of National Police Security (Kabaharkam)\nCommissioner Pol Haryanto, Head of TNI Legal Affairs (Kababinkum)\nAdmiral TNI Kresno Buntoro, and the Assistant for Intelligence of the\nTNI Major General TNI Rio Firdianto.<\/p>\n
The meeting took place while the condition of forest fires in several\nparts of Kalimantan remains a primary concern for the government.<\/p>\n
In West Kalimantan, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is\nstill monitoring 30 fire hotspots, with air quality in several areas\nfalling into the hazardous category. Visibility has even been reported\nto be below 1 kilometre.<\/p>\n
The Acting Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Disaster\nCommunication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, stated that both ground and\naerial firefighting operations are ongoing.<\/p>\n
However, officers are facing obstacles such as low visibility,\npeatlands that are difficult to extinguish, and limited water\nresources.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government has declared\na forest fire emergency status from 31 August to 29 September 2026.
