President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that more than 1,000 kitchens\nof the Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) units within the Makan\nBergizi Gratis (MBG) programme have been temporarily suspended as part\nof efforts to improve service quality.<\/p>\n
Through a statement from the Indonesian Government\u2019s Communication\nAgency (Bakom), the President stated that this step is intended to\nensure that nutrition service standards, cleanliness, and food safety\nare fully met, allowing the programme to operate optimally and on\ntarget.<\/p>\n
\u201cI checked directly. I called the Head of BGN and kept\ncross-checking,\u201d said Prabowo in his statement on Thursday, 19 March\n2026.<\/p>\n
Prabowo emphasised that this policy does not mean halting the\nprogramme, but rather forms part of a comprehensive evaluation and\nimprovement process. According to him, the decision was taken after\ndirect checks following various inputs and criticisms regarding the\nimplementation of MBG in the field.<\/p>\n
Prabowo affirmed that the government does not turn a blind eye to\ncriticism, but instead uses it as material for evaluation to enhance the\nquality of the programme concerning the future of the nation\u2019s\ngenerations.<\/p>\n
\u201cI sent my people to check. I think, if I\u2019m not mistaken, out of tens\nof thousands of kitchens, we\u2019ve closed more than a thousand,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Prabowo stated that strict action is taken against kitchens that do\nnot meet standards, with direct oversight in the field.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore than a thousand. I have a deputy head, one lady, Mrs Nanik.\nShe\u2019s very strict. She keeps doing surprise inspections,\u201d said the\nPresident.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose already suspended: 1,030. And what we\u2019re doing now is\ncertification. So if your kitchen wants to survive beyond a certain\nnumber of months, you must pass hygiene certification, food safety\ncertification, check the water\u2014how\u2019s the water, is the water safe, how\nthe water is cooked, then the pots, everything has criteria. If it\u2019s not\nup to standard, it\u2019s closed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In addition, the government is also beginning to implement a strict\nstandardisation and certification system for all MBG kitchens. Each\nkitchen is required to meet criteria for cleanliness, food safety, water\nquality, and processing procedures in accordance with standards.\nKitchens that do not meet the requirements will be immediately suspended\nuntil improvements are made.<\/p>\n
