President Prabowo Subianto said that \u201cthe reserves will be called on\u201d\nas he compared his Cabinet to a football team. His remarks have been\ninterpreted as a signal that a cabinet reshuffle may be on the\ncards.<\/p>\n
Agung Baskoro, executive director of Trias Politika, said the\ncomments increased the likelihood of a reshuffle in the near future. He\nalso raised concerns about the performance of Prabowo\u2019s Cabinet.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe likelihood is high. First, performance (the technocratic\ndimension) is still not optimal, as reflected in the declining level of\npublic satisfaction, particularly regarding the economy, the law and the\nquality of the implementation of key government programmes such as MBG\nand Kopdes,\u201d Agung said when contacted on Thursday (22 October\n2026).<\/p>\n
Agung said another reason concerned the political dimension, adding\nthat Prabowo still needed to balance the existing political blocs.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the political dimension, there is a need to balance the\npolitical blocs, particularly the Solo bloc, so that the President has\nfull control as Supreme Commander and Head of Government,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Agung also said there was a legal dimension to the possibility of a\nreshuffle. \u201cThird, the legal dimension: there is a presidential aide\nsuspected of being implicated in a corruption case,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Agung then mentioned several figures who could be affected by a\ncabinet reshuffle, including Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith forest and land fires now in the spotlight, my focus is on the\nForestry Minister, Raja Juli; this is serious. Another possibility is\nNusron Wahid, so he can focus on the case. He has twice failed to appear\nin response to summonses from the Corruption Eradication Commission\n(KPK). He should resign, as he has become a burden on the President,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Hendri Satrio, founder of the KedaiKOPI polling institute, shared\nAgung\u2019s view that Prabowo\u2019s remarks pointed to a cabinet reshuffle. He\nsaid the President had many people ready to replace members of the\nCabinet.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy reading is that the President has plenty of people in reserve who\nare ready to help him and be entrusted with particular posts. Will there\nbe a reshuffle? Yes. The reserve players warming up before entering the\narena is a pretty good way of putting it, Mr Prabowo,\u201d said Satrio.<\/p>\n
Prabowo\u2019s remarks<\/strong><\/p>\n Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto compared his Cabinet to a\nfootball team made up of first-choice players, substitutes and\nsupporters. He urged members of the Red and White Cabinet who had not\nyet been given many responsibilities not to become frustrated.<\/p>\n Prabowo made the remarks while chairing a cabinet meeting marking two\nyears of government at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on\nWednesday (21 October). He said he had not intended to \u201cplay\u201d all his\nministers from the outset.<\/p>\n \u201cAs I said at the beginning of our government, we will not play all\nthe players at the start. Some are substitutes, some are supporters, and\nsome are strikers,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n He urged ministers likened to substitutes to remain calm and not lose\nheart, assuring them that every Cabinet member would have the\nopportunity to play a role.<\/p>\n \u201cTo those on the bench, don\u2019t be frustrated; your time will come, and\nwe will play you,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
