President Prabowo Subianto has received a report that aid amounting\nto Rp20 billion for each disaster-affected district in East Nusa\nTenggara (NTT) has been disbursed and received by local governments.<\/p>\n
During a coordination meeting on post-earthquake handling at an\nevacuation post at the 834\/Wakanga Mere Territorial Development\nBattalion headquarters in Tonggurambang Village, Mbay, Nagekeo Regency,\nNTT, on Wednesday, the President asked the Head of the National Disaster\nManagement Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto about the aid provided to\nearthquake-affected districts.<\/p>\n
\u201cHas the Rp20 billion aid for each affected district arrived?\u201d the\nPresident asked, monitored online via the Presidential Secretariat\nbroadcast in Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Suharyanto said the aid had been received and had been conveyed to\neach district head.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has arrived. We have also told the regents that the aid must not\nbe used for anything other than disaster management,\u201d Suharyanto\nsaid.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, NTT Governor Melki Laka Lena explained that the\naid was given to all districts on Flores Island.<\/p>\n
In addition, the NTT Provincial Government has also received aid\namounting to Rp40 billion, Melki said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMr President, we have received the aid. All districts on Flores\nIsland received Rp20 billion and the province received Rp40 billion,\u201d\nMelki said.<\/p>\n
According to him, the aid has greatly helped local governments\nstrengthen disaster management and meet the needs of evacuees.<\/p>\n
Melki also expressed appreciation because East Flores Regency also\nreceived aid even though the area was not included in the\nearthquake-affected regions.<\/p>\n
However, East Flores is still facing the impact of the Lewotobi\neruption which has been ongoing for approximately two years.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause they also received it because they were affected by\nLewotobi, Mr President. The Lewotobi eruption has been going on for two\nyears, and I express special thanks because they were not included but\nstill received it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In addition to government aid, he said the NTT Provincial Government\nis mobilising support from the public and businesses to ensure the basic\nneeds of disaster-affected residents continue to be met.<\/p>\n
The local government has asked shops and kiosks in affected areas to\nhelp provide community needs such as food, drinks, blankets and\nmattresses. The cost of this assistance will later be borne by the local\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
