President Prabowo Subianto has disclosed reports regarding alleged\nirregularities in the recording of Indonesia\u2019s coal exports. One of the\nmethods identified is the discrepancy between the amount of coal\nreported by Indonesia and the amount recorded in the destination\ncountries.<\/p>\n
Prabowo provided an example where Indonesia\u2019s export reports recorded\na shipment of 50,000 tonnes of coal, yet when compared with the records\nin the destination country, the amount received was recorded as 100,000\ntonnes. \u201cSo, many times we report that we are sending 50,000 tonnes of\ncoal, but in that country, they say, \u2018Oh no, we received 100,000.\u2019 The\nrecords exist; all the data is right here,\u201d Prabowo stated during a\ndialogue with senior journalists and experts at Padepokan Garuda Yaksa,\nHambalang, Bogor, on Sunday (6\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
According to Prabowo, these recording discrepancies are among the\nissues currently being scrutinised by the government. He noted that such\nfraudulent practices are more difficult to execute when Indonesia\u2019s\nexport data is cross-referenced with the data recorded by the receiving\nnations.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, domestically, there can be \u2018pat-guli-pat\u2019 [collusion].\nFalsifying shipments, right? Perhaps Customs is bribed, this institution\nis bribed, and so on. It is possible. But in the receiving country, we\ncannot [control that],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not a matter of bravery; I must act. I have no choice. I\nhave gathered all my assistants and told them: \u2018Hey, if we allow this,\nour country will never be in a healthy condition, will never be\nprosperous. The poor will only get poorer,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
Prabowo also linked this issue to the national economic condition. He\nhighlighted Indonesia\u2019s economic growth, which he noted has been around\n5% annually over the last seven years.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we know, for the last 7 years, our growth has been 5% each year.\nThat means we have grown by 35%. Yet, after growing by 35%, why are the\npoor increasing? The population of the poor and those at risk of\npoverty\u2014from 2017 to 2024, that is 7 years\u2014why has it risen? And why is\nthe middle class shrinking?
