TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has ordered\nincreased energy efficiency in several specific sectors to ensure\ntargeted energy-saving policies amid the threat of an oil crisis caused\nby the conflict in the Middle East. This was conveyed by the Cabinet\nSecretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya, following a closed meeting yesterday.<\/p>\n
During the closed meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on\nThursday, March 19, 2026, Prabowo received reports from several\nministers regarding the government\u2019s measures to anticipate and prepare\nfor the threat of an oil crisis, especially to maintain national energy\nresilience.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe President discussed strategic steps related to the energy\nconservation plan in various sectors as an anticipation of the political\ndynamics in the Middle East region that could affect the stability of\nglobal energy supply and prices,\u201d stated Teddy in Jakarta on Thursday,\nas quoted from Antara. \u201cThe President instructed that efficiency be\nfocused on specific sectors to maintain stability and domestic energy\nresilience.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the meeting, the President received reports from the\nCoordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Finance\nMinister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, and the Minister of Higher Education,\nResearch, and Technology Brian Yuliarto.<\/p>\n
Other officials attending the meeting included the State Secretary\nMinister Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, the\nInvestment and Industrial Estate Minister\/Head of BKPM as well as\nDanantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, and the President Director of\nPertamina Simon Aloysius Mantiri.<\/p>\n
The Presidential Secretariat, in its official statement, explained\nthat the President\u2019s energy efficiency measures are a strategy to ensure\nthe sustainability of the national energy supply while maintaining\nnational economic stability amidst global uncertainties.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough cross-ministry coordination, the government strives to\nensure that energy-saving policies can be effective, targeted, and not\ndisrupt the economic activities of society,\u201d as quoted from the\nPresidential Secretariat\u2019s official statement.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Airlangga explained that one of the energy efficiency\nplans includes implementing a work-from-home system to reduce fuel\nconsumption from travel.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that the WFH scheme would be implemented for 1 day\nwithin a 5-day working period. \u201cThe technical details are currently\nbeing prepared, as this is expected to involve not only government\nemployees but also private companies and regional governments. We are\ncurrently working on the details, and once the concept is mature, we\nwill inform the public in more detail,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
