Speaking at the National Gathering of the Indonesian Science,\nTechnology, and Industry Convention (KSTI) in Jakarta on Friday, Prabowo\nsaid he felt a deep personal satisfaction when using the Maung\npresidential vehicle, which was developed by domestic industry. \u201cI have\na deep satisfaction in my heart. When I was inaugurated, I returned from\nthe inauguration and was able to ride in an Indonesian-made car,\u201d\nPrabowo said. The President admitted he had questioned why Indonesia was\nonly now starting to make its own cars after more than eight decades of\nindependence. However, he expressed appreciation to various parties,\nincluding universities, for helping to drive the progress of national\nindustry. \u201cBut I thank the campuses. I am grateful that we are starting\nto move towards having our own car,\u201d he stated. Prabowo said that\nalthough the Maung vehicle does not yet fully use domestic components,\nthe local content level (TKDN) of around 60\u201370 percent already\ndemonstrates progress towards national industrial independence. He even\njoked that during the early months of use, the vehicle experienced leaks\nwhen hit by heavy rain. \u201cIn the first few months it was alright, except\nwhen it rained hard. When it rained hard, it did leak a bit,\u201d he said,\ndrawing laughter from participants. Nevertheless, Prabowo stressed he\nwould continue to use domestic products as a form of support for the\nrevival of national industry. \u201cAt least we have started; we must dare to\nstart,\u201d he said. On the occasion, the President also emphasised the\nimportance of the role of scientists, academics, and professors in\ndriving the nation\u2019s progress.
