        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s plan to provide a\nmortgage repayment scheme of up to 40 years for workers has been met\nwith varied responses from labour groups.<\/p>\n<p>Several workers hope the programme will be fully realised with light\ninstalments, 0% down payments, and non-burdensome requirements.<\/p>\n<p>General Secretary of the Independent Manufacturing Workers\u2019 Union\nFederation (GSPMI) Tarman said he hopes the promise can be fulfilled by\nthe government.<\/p>\n<p>However, he also alluded to several previous government promises\nthat, in his view, have not been fully realised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully it\u2019s true. But during the President\u2019s announcements in\nprevious years about abolishing outsourcing, that hasn\u2019t been realised\nyet,\u201d Tarman told Kompas.com on the sidelines of International Labour\nDay around Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta, on Friday\n(1\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hope for workers is 0% down payment. And the instalments should\nalso be flat,\u201d Tarman said.<\/p>\n<p>Tarman assessed that current subsidised housing instalments are still\nquite high for some workers. Therefore, workers hope the government can\nintroduce a more affordable repayment scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubsidised houses are now above Rp 1 million per month. If possible,\nbelow Rp 1 million,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Tarman hopes the provided housing locations are not too\nfar from workers\u2019 residences or work areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf available, we want ones close to home for investment, at least\nfor the children\u2019s future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Field Coordinator of the Linfox Logistics Indonesia\nWorkers\u2019 Union (SPPLLI) Totong Rohimat said his side appreciates it if\nthe government truly provides affordable housing instalments for\nworkers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the instalments can be affordable, then we appreciate it. We very\nmuch appreciate it if Mr Prabowo directs towards that,\u201d Totong told\nKompas.com at the same location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy hope going forward is that the payments don\u2019t disrupt other\nfinances. Because our wages are not yet decent,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
