President Prabowo Subianto has expressed appreciation for the synergy\nshown by all parties in handling forest and land fires (karhutla) in\nRiau Province.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am truly pleased to see your handling of this. I think this is\nsomething good that we might note down to share with other regions as a\nmodel for handling. Your preventive measures are also quite good,\u201d the\nPresident said during a meeting on forest and land fire management in\nRiau on Monday.<\/p>\n
Prabowo assessed that the cooperation demonstrated by various\nelements was key to tackling forest and land fires. He commended the\nsteps taken by the regional government, the Indonesian National Armed\nForces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the Regional Disaster\nManagement Agency (BPBD), and all civilian elements that moved in an\nintegrated manner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is teamwork, and I am pleased. After seeing your gotong royong,\nI am very happy. The TNI, Polri, BPBD, all channels, all elements of the\nregional government, civilians, everyone is moving. This is what we\nwant. I thank you, and I am proud to carry out this activity,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The President stressed that the government would continue to support\nthe needs for handling forest and land fires on the ground, including\nadditional water-bombing helicopters and oxygen supplies. Prabowo also\nrequested that the hard work of all parties be reported\ncomprehensively.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must now respect hard work. Of course, later the National\nDisaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and other channels will also be\nrespected. Governor, thank you. So whatever we can help with, we will\nhelp,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n
President Prabowo\u2019s appreciation also underscored that handling\nforest and land fires is not solely about extinguishing fires when they\nappear, but requires collective strength in prevention, preparedness,\nlaw enforcement and sustained community involvement.<\/p>\n
On the occasion, Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan\noutlined various measures undertaken, both through law enforcement and\npreventive approaches.<\/p>\n
According to him, the Riau Regional Police have adopted a multi-door\napproach and installed law enforcement warning signs at former fire\nsites.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlhamdulillah, now after we have installed the signs, the signs are\npermanent, so former burn sites may no longer be used for planting,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Beyond law enforcement, synergy has also been realised through the\nconstruction of forest and land fire control infrastructure.<\/p>\n
In addition, prevention efforts have been strengthened through public\neducation, engagement down to the village level, joint patrols,\nreadiness assemblies, the installation of banners and environmental\nrestoration programmes.<\/p>\n
