We are learning\nfrom it. In my administration, budget allocations for disaster\nmitigation must be substantially raised,\u201d he remarked, alluding to the\nongoing response to a deadly earthquake as well as widespread wildfires\nand volcanic eruptions.<\/p>\n<p>Prabowo delivered the remarks while opening a limited meeting on\ndisaster mitigation via video conference from the Merdeka Palace in\nJakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He underscored that Indonesia is prone to natural disasters due to\nits location within the Pacific Ring of Fire, noting that this condition\ndemands additional efforts from the government to ensure public health\nand safety.<\/p>\n<p>The president then urged State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi to\ncoordinate with Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa and National\nDevelopment Planning Minister Rachmat Pambudy to devise a disaster\nmitigation master plan, with an emphasis on sufficient human resources\nand assets.<\/p>\n<p>In that regard, he underlined the need to prepare more helicopters,\nwater pumps, and fire containment equipment to allow for immediate and\nadequate responses.<\/p>\n<p>The head of state also stressed the importance of providing rural\nareas with more small-sized excavators, especially those grappling with\nrecurring forest fires.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he highlighted plans to use Indonesia\u2019s first aircraft\ncarrier, the Giuseppe Garibaldi, to support helicopter and drone\noperations. Currently en route from Italy to Indonesia for a handover\nceremony, the vessel will be modified to carry 10 medium-class\nhelicopters, each capable of delivering four to five tons of water for\nwildfire suppression.<\/p>\n<p>The government also intends to deploy additional aircraft to\nintensify weather modification operations, with the National Research\nand Innovation Agency (BRIN) tasked with identifying the most effective\nmaterials to support such operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should not wait for a disaster to occur.
