President Prabowo Subianto has requested that the completion process\nof the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership\nAgreement (IEU-CEPA) be accelerated so that it can move into the\nratification stage and open wider market access for Indonesian products\nto the European Union.<\/p>\n
This directive was delivered during a meeting with several ministers\nat the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday (22\/09\/202 $\next{6}$). The government considers the finalisation of IEU-CEPA to be a\nstrategic step in strengthening Indonesia\u2019s trade and investment\nrelations with the European Union.<\/p>\n
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto,\nstated that the President requested all technical processes be completed\nimmediately, particularly the preparation of the final documents in\nEnglish, which is a requirement for submission to the European\nParliament.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe President also requested that the IEU-CEPA be completed\npromptly, as it is currently in the process of preparing the necessary\nEnglish-language documentation to be brought to the European\nParliament,\u201d Airlangga said in a press statement following the\nmeeting.<\/p>\n
Airlangga explained that the IEU-CEPA has now entered the document\nfinalisation stage. Once the documents are submitted to the European\nParliament, the process will proceed to the ratification stage in\naccordance with the mechanisms applicable in both the European Union and\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
According to him, accelerating the completion of the IEU-CEPA is\nvital to providing certainty for businesses and investors amidst global\neconomic uncertainty. This agreement is also expected to expand\nIndonesia\u2019s export access to one of the world\u2019s largest markets.<\/p>\n
In addition to pushing for the accelerated completion of the trade\nagreement, the government continues to strengthen communication with the\nEuropean Union to ensure a smooth ratification process.<\/p>\n
Airlangga revealed that the European Commissioner for Trade and\nEconomic Security, Maro\u0161 \u0160ef\u010dovi\u010d, is scheduled to visit Indonesia in\nthe near future. Furthermore, the President of the European Union is\nalso planned to visit Indonesia in late October or early November\n2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is indeed a plan from Commissioner Maro\u0161 to come to Indonesia\nas part of the IEU-CEPA process, and there is also a plan for the EU\nPresident to visit Indonesia in late October or early November,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The government targets the ratification process of the IEU-CEPA to be\nconducted in the second half of 2026. Consequently, the implementation\nof the free trade agreement between Indonesia and the European Union is\nexpected to commence in early 2027.<\/p>\n
