Jakarta (ANTARA) - General Secretary of PDI Perjuangan Hasto\nKristiyanto stated that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto\nand the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati\nSoekarnoputri discussed various strategic national issues up to the\ndynamics of global geopolitics.<\/p>\n
Hasto, in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday, confirmed that\nthe meeting took place at Merdeka Palace today, with Megawati\naccompanied by Puan Maharani.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is true that today, Thursday, 19 March 2026, a meeting was held\nbetween the two leaders, President Prabowo Subianto and Mrs Megawati\nSoekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. In that meeting, Mrs Megawati was\naccompanied by Ms Puan Maharani,\u201d said Hasto.<\/p>\n
According to him, Megawati conveyed that the meeting took place in a\nfriendly atmosphere as a gathering between two long-time\nacquaintances.<\/p>\n
\u201cMrs Megawati told me that it was a meeting of old friends and took\nplace amicably for more than two hours,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Hasto explained that in the meeting, the two figures discussed\nstrategic issues related to national and state matters, including global\ngeopolitical challenges faced by Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the meeting of the two leaders, strategic matters concerning the\nnation and state were discussed, as well as various geopolitical\nissues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added that Megawati\u2019s experience as president in facing\nmultidimensional crises was also part of the discussion, particularly\nregarding policy approaches that emphasise a sense of priority and sense\nof urgency.<\/p>\n
In addition, continued Hasto, the discussion also covered Indonesia\u2019s\nrole in the global arena, including its pioneering history in the\nAsian-African Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as the\nprinciple of free and active foreign policy.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Megawati also recounted her most recent visit to\nthe Middle East region, including to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi\nArabia.<\/p>\n
Hasto emphasised that PDI Perjuangan views meetings between national\nleaders as part of the tradition of dialogue and deliberation that\nreflects the values of mutual cooperation.<\/p>\n
