        "content": "<p>President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting regarding the\ntextile and textile products (TPT) industry at the State Palace on\nTuesday (22\/09\/2026). He requested that various obstacles within the\ntextile industry be removed.<\/p>\n<p>The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto,\nexpressed his desire for these barriers to be resolved. \u201cThere were\nseveral notes regarding obstacles. First, regarding the ease of raw\nmaterial entry. The President requested that we review Technical\nApprovals (Pertek) and other related matters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecondly, specifically for the downstream sector, namely garments,\nwhere disruptions occur through bulk imports or illegal \u2018balpres\u2019\n(wrapped in plastic) imports. The Director General of Customs and Excise\nhas been instructed to immediately regularise this, as it significantly\ndisrupts domestic garment producers,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to Airlangga, the President also requested his staff to\nfacilitate the textile industry in obtaining raw materials, including\nleather-based materials, particularly concerning halal certification\nissues. \u201cEase of certification regarding halal issues is required. This\nis essential not only for the textile industry but also for the footwear\nindustry,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he mentioned that textile products are facing issues\nregarding tariff harmonisation and import duty rates for several types.\nConsequently, he was tasked with resolving matters related to\nAnti-Dumping Duties.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Airlangga reported on the condition of the\ntextile and textile products industry from upstream to downstream,\nnoting its contribution to GDP at 0.97%. Additionally, the sector\nemploys 4 million people, with export values reaching US$12 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Airlangga also informed the President that the TPT industry grew by\n5.6%, exceeding the overall economic growth rate, while the leather\ngoods and footwear industry grew by 8.25%.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the production capacity utilisation of textile\nfactories currently stands at approximately 75%, indicating room for\nexpansion. Regarding the trade balance for garment products, Indonesia\nhas exported US$8.7 billion against imports of US$690 million, meaning\nIndonesia has become a net exporter in this segment.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, for upstream textile products, Indonesia remains a net\nimporter, with imports valued at US$8.4 billion compared to exports of\nonly US$3.1 billion. \u201cSo there are two sides: from the upstream to\nmidstream industry, we are net importers, but in terms of garments, we\nare net exporters,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>",
