Prabowo intends to tell all in book<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Lt. Gen. (ret.) Prabowo Subianto, the disgraced
\nformer chief of the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad),
\nhas said he intends to put the record straight in a planned book
\non events surrounding the bloody May 1998 riots and abduction of
\nstudent activists.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of his son, senior economist Sumitro
\nDjojohadikusumo said on Thursday Prabowo has revealed plans to
\ntell his side of the story.<\/p>\n
Prabowo is currently in Amman, Jordan.<\/p>\n
\"He is now gathering funds (to publish the book),\" Sumitro
\nsaid, stressing that his son was not a rich man.<\/p>\n
Sumitro, who has just been released from hospital in
\nSingapore, said Prabowo frequently visits him and his latest
\ndiscreet trip home was on March 5.<\/p>\n
\"His father has just recovered from illness. What's so strange
\nif he then makes a trip here to visit,\" Sumitro remarked.<\/p>\n
Separately, one of Prabowo's associates Fadli Zon said, \"the
\nplan to write a book is a long-term plan but I think he has
\nalready started to write in Amman.\"<\/p>\n
Fadli brushed aside suggestions that the book was timed to
\ncoincide with the impending retirement from active duty and
\nsuspension as coordinating minister for political affairs and
\nsecurity Gen. Wiranto, considered by many to have been his
\npolitical rival during the calamitous period in May 1998.<\/p>\n
\"Prabowo is not that kind of person. He has completely
\naccepted his condition,\" Fadli remarked.<\/p>\n
\"He has chosen to take care of his business rather than deal
\nin politics. I'm quite sure that he doesn't plan anything against
\nanybody here,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Following an inquiry which implicated him in the abduction of
\nstudent activists, the husband of Siti Hediati \"Titiek\" Harijadi,
\nSoeharto's daughter, was dismissed from the military in August
\n1998.<\/p>\n
Leaving his wife behind in Indonesia and his son in the United
\nStates, Prabowo, 48, spends most of his time conducting business
