President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia has rejected loan\noffers from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) because the country\nremains capable of conducting development without relying on loans from\nthe institution.<\/p>\n
Prabowo made these remarks during his closing speech at the 35th\nNahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School\nin Tambakberas, Jombang Regency, East Java, on Monday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe that a few months ago, it was surprising; our Finance\nMinister in Washington DC was offered a loan from the IMF, and we\nrejected it. Thank you, but Indonesia can still manage without IMF\nloans,\u201d said Prabowo.<\/p>\n
The President stated that while the government remains open to\ninvestment, if borrowing becomes necessary, the government seeks loans\nwith the lowest possible interest rates.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are currently striving not to borrow too much money from various\nsources. Inviting investment is welcome. If we do borrow money, we want\nto borrow at the smallest possible interest rate,\u201d the President\nadded.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the Head of State noted that the primary focus of the\ngovernment\u2019s transformation strategy is to increase public welfare and\nlift as many Indonesians as possible out of poverty.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must be brave, and I have calculated this carefully, down to the\nlast rupiah. I have calculated it, and I am confident and believe that\nwe will succeed,\u201d said Prabowo.<\/p>\n
Prabowo mentioned that the government aims to see millions of\nIndonesians escape poverty, asserting that these achievements would\nbegin to be evidenced within the first two years of his\nadministration.<\/p>\n
It is noted that in mid-April, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa\nheld a strategic meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva\nduring his agenda in Washington DC, USA. During that meeting, Purbaya\nconfirmed that Indonesia possesses an adequate fiscal buffer. He\nexplained that the IMF highlighted that global uncertainty is expected\nto persist in the near future, driven by geopolitical tensions and\nenergy price dynamics.<\/p>\n
While the IMF acknowledged it lacks the authority to reduce global\nuncertainty, the international institution prepares financial support\nfor countries in need of assistance.<\/p>\n
