        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has\nemphasised that the government will not sacrifice national interests in\nany policy decisions, including the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART)\nbetween Indonesia and the United States (US). \u201cYou must believe that I\nprioritise Indonesia\u2019s national interests. If I assess that our national\ninterests are threatened by any agreement, then we can leave it,\u201d said\nPresident Prabowo, quoted from the \u201cPrabowo Answers\u201d broadcast released\nby the Indonesian Government Communication Agency in Jakarta on Sunday.\nAccording to the President, the entire content of the agreement has\nundergone thorough considerations before being agreed upon by the\ngovernment. One of the main points in the cooperation is the reduction\nof trade tariffs from 32 per cent to 19 per cent. The President\nexplained that in the agreement, Indonesia receives special treatment\nfrom US President Donald Trump. The government still has room to\nrenegotiate if, in the future, the agreement is deemed detrimental to\nthe domestic side. \u201cIn yesterday\u2019s agreement, we agreed that if there\nare matters that are not agreeable to both parties or conflict with our\ninterests, then an adjustment clause will be made,\u201d said Prabowo.\nFurthermore, the President mentioned that this special feature in the\nform of an adjustment clause is not possessed by other countries in\nsimilar agreements with the United States. This provides flexibility for\nIndonesia to maintain its economic sovereignty. From the commodity side,\nIndonesia is said to gain significant advantages through this agreement.\nAs many as 1,819 national strategic commodities now have market access\nwith zero per cent tariffs to the United States. Prabowo detailed that\nflagship products such as coffee and palm oil are included in the list\nof commodities with zero per cent tariffs. The elimination of tariff\nbarriers is considered to be highly beneficial for national producers\nand exporters. Regarding comparisons with neighbouring countries\u2019\npolicies, the President emphasised that Indonesia will act rationally in\nmaking decisions. The government will not hastily follow the steps of\nother countries like Malaysia in unilaterally cancelling trade\nagreements without careful calculation.
