President Prabowo Subianto distributed groceries and T-shirts after\nhis speech at the Labour Party\u2019s International Labour Day or May Day\ncommemoration held at Monas in Central Jakarta on 1 May 2026.<\/p>\n
Prabowo delivered his speech on stage in front of thousands of\nworkers filling the viewing area of Monas. Labour banners were held high\nby the crowd. After speaking, Prabowo descended the stage and was\nescorted to the Garuda Maung vehicle.<\/p>\n
From atop the Maung, Prabowo then threw plastic-wrapped T-shirts into\nthe crowd at 10:00 WIB. He removed his brown safari shirt and black peci\nfrom the roof of the Maung. Wearing only a black T-shirt, he distributed\nthe T-shirts.<\/p>\n
It is not yet known what T-shirts Prabowo distributed from the Maung.\nHowever, Diana Anwar, Chair of the Wood and Forestry Sector Workers\u2019\nUnion of the All-Indonesian Workers\u2019 Union (SPSI), said the T-shirts\ndistributed were the same as the one she received.<\/p>\n
The T-shirt read: MAYDAY 2026 Bagimu Negeri Jiwa Raga Kami. In\naddition to T-shirts, Diana said the President also gave groceries and\numbrellas. Umbrellas were given only to female workers.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone got them, but they were distributed on the buses,\u201d said\nDiana, who held a VIP invitation, when interviewed by Tempo.<\/p>\n
The grocery package contents included 5 kilograms of rice, oil, fresh\nmilk, coffee, tea, and T-shirts. Diana wore the T-shirt while attending\nthe event. The T-shirt, according to Diana, was designed by President\nPrabowo.<\/p>\n
Unlike Diana, residents attending the May Day commemoration at Monas\nreceived groceries at the Arjuna Wijaya Statue gate entrance. Deni, a\nresident of Tangerang who joined a bus group, received groceries\ndistributed at the Monas exit gate at Arjuna Wijaya or Thamrin. At the\ntime, he was waiting for his bus group friends.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe waited at the exit gate. While waiting for the others, friends\nbrought these (groceries),\u201d said Deni, showing a white drawstring bag\nprinted with \u201cIstana Kepresidenan Republik Indonesia\u201d.<\/p>\n
Groceries were distributed in white and sky-blue drawstring bags.\nWahyudin, Deni\u2019s colleague, recounted that the groceries were handed out\nfrom box trucks. He mentioned there were about four box trucks full of\ngroceries when he collected them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe took them from one truck. Along with other residents. (The\ndistributors) were probably like officials in uniforms. Maybe from an\norganisation,\u201d said Wahyudin.<\/p>\n
Tempo checked the contents of the grocery bag. Inside were two\npackets of rice, 500 grams of instant coffee, cooking oil, boxed tea\nbags, and granulated sugar.<\/p>\n
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi has not responded to Tempo\u2019s\nconfirmation messages regarding the distribution of T-shirts and\ngroceries.<\/p>\n
Several workers\u2019 unions and labour federations in various regions\nheld May Day commemorations on Friday, 1 May 2026. The International\nLabour Day commemoration in Jakarta was split into two locations: the\nMonas area in Central Jakarta and in front of the House of\nRepresentatives (DPR) building in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The All-Indonesian Workers\u2019 Confederation together with the Labour\nParty held May Day at Monas. However, it was not a demand-submission\naction; the May Day at Monas was held as a celebration featuring\nPresident Prabowo Subianto.<\/p>\n
KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea said the head of state would give\nsurprises to the workers\u2019 unions during the 2026 May Day celebration.\nAccording to him, the surprises would be announced directly by Prabowo\non the celebration stage.<\/p>\n
