Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the composition\nof his government\u2019s coalition is currently very efficient.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe now have eight parties. It is already incredibly efficient. Many\nother countries may have dozens of parties,\u201d said Prabowo during his\nclosing remarks at the 35th NU Congress in Tambakberas, Jombang, on\nMonday (31\/8).<\/p>\n
Prabowo noted that as a great nation that has chosen a democratic\nsystem, forming a coalition is an inevitability. He remarked that\nIndonesia\u2019s territory is vast, comparable to the European Union, which\ncomprises 27 countries.<\/p>\n
He argued that under such conditions, it is impossible for the\nIndonesian government to be run by a single party. \u201cCoalition is\nnecessary to lead, govern, and manage a nation that will soon consist of\n300 million people. As the fourth largest country in the world, it is\nimpossible for a nation of this magnitude to be led by only one party,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Prabowo also emphasised that the government requires stability to\nensure its programmes can run optimally. He compared Indonesia\u2019s\nsituation to other countries with political constellations that tend\ntoward instability, citing Japan and the United Kingdom, which have seen\nfrequent changes in prime ministerial leadership over the last five to\nsix years.<\/p>\n
At the same time, he addressed criticisms regarding his\nadministration being a \u201cbloated cabinet.\u201d He compared the size of his\ncabinet to that of Timor-Leste, which has up to 28 cabinet members\ndespite its much smaller territory.<\/p>\n
\u201cUltimately, the government requires stability and tranquillity.\nTherefore, the coalition government I lead\u2014comprising seven out of the\neight parties in parliament\u2014and the cabinet I have formed, which some\nhave called bloated or inefficient, must be viewed in context.
