President Prabowo Subianto has spotlighted the unproductive use of\nbudgets at the regional level, while alluding to the extravagant\npurchase of an official vehicle for a regional head valued at Rp 8\nbillion.<\/p>\n
According to Prabowo, many basic needs of the community remain unmet,\nsuch as the construction of village bridges, yet regional budgets are\nallocated to non-priority items.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany expenditures that should be handled by districts and provinces\nare not carried out. For example, the bridge earlier\u2014village bridges\u2014the\npeople have to shout, the president has to intervene. Sorry, there is\nvillage funding, where has the money gone? Where is the regent? Where is\nthe governor\u2019s funding? But, alright, I take responsibility. So, we must\nbe open, we must be fair,\u201d said Prabowo during a question-and-answer\nsession with journalists at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor,\nwhich aired on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The President stated that the current pattern of regional spending is\nstill inefficient, including in the allocation of budgets for officials\u2019\nfacilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany officials, in my view, this is inefficient. You see it\nyourselves. Let\u2019s be open. There is a district, eh regional government,\nthey buy a governor\u2019s official vehicle for how much? Rp 8 billion,\u201d said\nPrabowo.<\/p>\n
In comparison, Prabowo emphasised that he uses a domestically\nproduced official vehicle at a much lower price.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am the President of Indonesia. I use the Indonesian-made Maung\nvehicle. Its price is Rp 700 million. Perhaps because it\u2019s for the\nPresident, with bulletproofing, it might become Rp 1 billion. But not up\nto Rp 8 billion. We investigate everything, efficiency,\u201d said the\nPresident.<\/p>\n
The Head of State also stressed the importance of awareness and\nresponsibility among regional heads in managing public budgets,\nparticularly to ensure they are truly used for the people\u2019s\ninterests.<\/p>\n

Prabowo reminded that the primary duty of regional heads is to serve\nthe community, not merely to spend the budget.<\/p>\n
