President Prabowo Subianto has admitted to still encountering\nbureaucrats who deliberately complicate the permitting process to find\nloopholes for demanding money.<\/p>\n
This was stated by Prabowo at the handover of Rp10.2 billion from\nadministrative forestry fine collections by the PKH Task Force at the\nAttorney General\u2019s Office, on Wednesday (13\/5).<\/p>\n
He expressed astonishment that even though the government has\nsimplified the permitting process, ministries and agencies complicate it\nagain through ministerial regulations and technical rules.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tendency in regulations is an initiative from bureaucrats, to be\nfrank, to seek opportunities. Some demand kickbacks or money to speed up\nthe issuance of permits,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Prabowo even admitted to receiving complaints from business groups\nwho want to work and invest in Indonesia but are instead hindered by\npermitting issues.<\/p>\n
He noted that permits often only emerge after one to two years from\nthe application process. Meanwhile, Prabowo said, in other countries,\npermitting can be completed in just two weeks.<\/p>\n
\u201cBusinesspeople also complain; they want to work and invest, but\nsometimes they wait for permits for one year, two years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhereas in other countries, it\u2019s two weeks. We must refer to\nneighbouring countries. If they can issue permits in two weeks, why do\nwe take two years?\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Therefore, Prabowo said he has asked State Secretary Minister\nPrasetyo Hadi to create a special task force to accelerate permitting\nderegulation.<\/p>\n
\u201cSimplify it, don\u2019t complicate it. Businesspeople must be helped and\nsupported. We discipline the naughty ones, but those who are good and\ntruly want to work must be assisted,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany foreign investors also complain that in Indonesia, permits\noften take a very long time and there are too many, brothers and\nsisters.
