President Prabowo Subianto has expressed confidence that Indonesia is\ncapable of producing petroleum fuel from plants. This statement was made\namid growing uncertainty in global energy supply and rising oil prices\ndue to the conflict between Iran and Israel, involving the United\nStates.<\/p>\n
According to Prabowo, Indonesia possesses substantial natural\nresources to achieve energy self-sufficiency through the development of\nbiofuels. For example, plants such as palm oil and cassava can be\nprocessed into alternative energy sources capable of reducing dependence\non fuel imports.<\/p>\n
Prabowo then reminded the public that the government has pursued\nnational energy independence for many years. Indonesia has been blessed\nwith resources that allow fuel requirements to be met domestically.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a great gift from the Almighty, that we will be able to meet\nour fuel needs from within our country, not from imports, and even from\nour plants. From palm oil, from cassava,\u201d Prabowo said during a virtual\npress conference on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia\nstated that the government is conducting various policy simulations to\ndetermine the most appropriate efficiency measures in response to global\nenergy supply challenges. The efficiency measures in question relate to\nprotecting national finances and optimising all available domestic\nenergy.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will also assess how important it is and what steps we must take\nto implement efficiency,\u201d Bahlil said at the Energy and Mineral\nResources Ministry on Monday, 9 March 2026.<\/p>\n
Bahlil disclosed that one measure under consideration by the\ngovernment is accelerating the use of biofuels by increasing biodiesel\nand bioethanol blending levels.<\/p>\n
The government plans to boost biodiesel application with higher\nblending up to B50 and promote E20 bioethanol for petrol-type fuel.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause if the price of fossil fuel can exceed US$100 per barrel, it\nwill be cheaper if we do blending. For diesel, from B40 now to B50.
