President Prabowo Subianto has said that the heart of the Indonesian\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) is the same as that of the\ngovernment coalition parties. The Gerindra Party chairman made the\nremarks while delivering a speech at the peak event marking the 28th\nanniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB) at the Jakarta\nConvention Center in Jakarta on Thursday evening, 23 July 2026.<\/p>\n
According to Prabowo, competition and contest are good things.\n\u201cSometimes we part ways, that\u2019s fine. We\u2019ll come together again later.\nPDIP\u2019s heart is actually the same as ours. Just check it. In its heart,\nit\u2019s really the same. The 1945 Constitution was drafted by Bung Karno\nand Bung Hatta, yes, the founders of our nation. Their hearts are the\nsame,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n
The difference, Prabowo said, is that PDIP has not yet formulated a\nrecommendation such as the one drawn up by the Ijtima Ulama. Prabowo\nstressed that criticism is actually good and can even be a saving\ngrace.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut there is a difference between criticism and abuse, right?\nCriticism and slander are different. But there\u2019s no problem. If we are\ncorrect, if we uphold the truth, if we are on the right path, there is\nno problem, we will remain strong,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n
Nearly two years into Prabowo Subianto\u2019s administration, PDIP remains\nthe only parliamentary party outside the cabinet. In early July, PDIP\u2019s\npolitical direction within Indonesia\u2019s constitutional landscape after\nits sixth congress was reaffirmed by PDIP chairperson Megawati\nSoekarnoputri through an internal letter.<\/p>\n
The letter, numbered 1275\/IN\/DPP\/VII\/2026, contained Megawati\u2019s\nmessage to cadres of the white-muzzled bull party regarding their\nposition in the government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice\nPresident Gibran Rakabuming Raka.<\/p>\n
Megawati stated that the presidential system of government adopted by\nIndonesia does not recognise the terms \u201copposition\u201d and \u201ccoalition\u201d as\nconstitutional categories regulated by the constitution. According to\nher, Indonesian democracy is not a constellation of power blocs, but\nrather rests on the sovereignty of the people and the supremacy of the\nconstitution.<\/p>\n
She also reminded that Indonesian democracy must not drift towards a\nconcentration of power that weakens the mechanisms of oversight and\ncorrection. A healthy democracy, she said, in fact requires a balance of\npower, respect for constitutional supremacy, and the moral courage to\noffer criticism and correction for the sake of the nation and state.<\/p>\n
