President Prabowo Subianto has said that by 2026, Indonesia has\nsucceeded in achieving food self-sufficiency for eight commodities:\nrice, maize, consumption sugar, chicken meat, chicken eggs, shallots,\nlarge chillies, and bird\u2019s eye chillies.<\/p>\n
Thanks to the hard work of his administration, he said, Indonesia was\nable to achieve rice self-sufficiency more quickly, from four years down\nto one year.<\/p>\n
He made the remarks in a speech before hundreds of members of the\nMPR, DPR and DPD at the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session\nof the DPR and DPD in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the\nRepublic of Indonesia at the Nusantara Building, Senayan Parliament\nComplex, Central Jakarta, on Friday (14\/8\/2026). Also in attendance were\nsenior officials of Indonesian state institutions, former Presidents and\nVice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia, and representatives of\nfriendly nations.<\/p>\n
According to Prabowo, this was also achieved after an overhaul in the\nfertiliser sector, including the removal of 145 regulations on\nfertiliser distribution.<\/p>\n
As a result, fertiliser prices were successfully reduced by 20%.\nThus, for the first time in Indonesian history, fertiliser prices fell\nwhile at the same time the volume of fertiliser available to the people\nalso increased.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo our people now find it easy to obtain fertiliser, and because of\nthat production has increased, and because of that we achieved food\nself-sufficiency more quickly,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe, Alhamdulillah, can report to this Assembly that regarding food,\nregarding food for the Indonesian people, we are in a safe condition.\nAnd we will be able to face challenges, including the El Ni\u00f1o challenge\nwhich is said to be severe this year, the most powerful El Ni\u00f1o,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Prabowo acknowledged that there are still issues\nwhose resolution cannot yet begin at this time, including\nself-sufficiency in meat and garlic.<\/p>\n
\u201cLadies and gentlemen, we are still not self-sufficient in meat. We\nwill work on that, and God willing, we can achieve it within the next\nfive to six years,\u201d Prabowo asserted.<\/p>\n
