President Prabowo Subianto is attending the Board of Peace Summit
today, Thursday 19 February 2026. The inaugural meeting of the
international body established by United States President Donald John
Trump is scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi explained that Prabowo will
also sign an agreement on reciprocal trade (ART) between Indonesia and
the United States.

“The President’s first agenda item is to attend the invitation
regarding the Board of Peace meeting. Then, through coordination between
the two countries, one of the additional agenda items is, God willing,
the signing of a trade tariff agreement with the United States
government,” Prasetyo said at the House of Representatives building in
the Senayan area of Jakarta on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

The Gerindra Party politician said the tariff agreement signing is
planned for the same day as the Board of Peace summit. “After the BoP,
there will then be plans to sign the tariff cooperation agreement,”
Prasetyo said.

Prasetyo claimed that Prabowo has a good relationship with Trump. He
expressed hope that the positive relations between the two heads of
state would smooth the agenda in the United States, particularly
regarding the tariff agreement. Currently, Prasetyo said, the import
tariff rate for Indonesian goods entering the United States that is
expected to be signed stands at approximately 19 per cent.

However, according to Prasetyo, the Prabowo-Trump relationship could
result in the agreed tariff for Indonesia being lower. “Perhaps in the
communication process, it is not impossible that because of the good
relationship between the two leaders, there may be a policy change — we
do not know,” Prasetyo said.

Prasetyo expressed confidence that Prabowo’s meeting with Trump could
bring benefits to the Indonesian nation. “We all hope that perhaps in
the meeting between President Prabowo and President Trump, there may be
changes that would benefit our nation and country,” he said.

Indonesia’s participation in Trump’s Board of Peace has drawn
criticism, including from former Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti
Djalal.

Dino identified at least four warning signs regarding Indonesia’s
decision to join the Board of Peace. First, the positions of the member
states are not equal.

Second, President Trump appears to regard the Board of Peace as his
personal ‘club’. Consequently, decisions risk being taken based on ego
rather than objective considerations.

Third, Dino highlighted the participation of Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu in the Board of Peace, whilst Palestine — the victim
of the war launched by Israel — has no place on the council.

The fourth warning sign raised by Dino is that speeches delivered by
the executive board members at the Board of Peace launch did not reflect
empathy towards the suffering of the Palestinian people since October
2023.
",
