President Prabowo Subianto expressed his sadness and disappointment\nover reports of public officials engaging in corruption. He emphasized\nthat those entrusted with positions of power have a responsibility to\nthe people and the state, and that no one, regardless of their\nrelationship with him, is above the law.<\/p>\n
The President shared his concerns during a speech to the public at\nthe Marsinah Museum in Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday morning (May\n16).<\/p>\n
\u201cI am saddened to see reports of officials engaging in corruption. I\nam deeply disappointed because those involved are people I trust,\u201d\nPrabowo said in a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat\u2019s\nYouTube channel.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are people I appointed, people I mentored, people I gave honor\nand entrusted with important positions, and yet they engage in\ncorruption, stealing the people\u2019s money! What should I do?\u201d<\/p>\n
He recounted an incident where the Head of the Financial Supervisory\nAgency (BPKP), Muhammad Yusuf Ateh, came to him, looking tense and\nhesitant. The Head of BPKP was stressed because the corruption cases he\nwas about to report involved names close to the President. He then asked\nfor guidance on whether the investigation should continue.<\/p>\n
Upon hearing this, Prabowo immediately gave a firm order. For him,\nthere is no room for favoritism or protection for anyone who dares to\ntouch the people\u2019s money, no matter how close they are to him.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe looked at me and asked for guidance. I said, \u2018Continue the\ninvestigation! There is no such thing as \u2019Prabowo\u2019s people\u2019 or \u2018not\nPrabowo\u2019s people.\u2019 If there is evidence, continue the investigation!\u201d,\nPrabowo said, quoting his instructions at the time.<\/p>\n
The former Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command\n(Pangkostrad) emphasized that the mandate and position in the state\ncarry full responsibility that must be accounted for to the people and\nthe state, not as a shield for personal interests.<\/p>\n
He regretted the attitude of some individuals who, after being given\npower, became arrogant and felt untouchable by the law.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn fact, when given honor, they should be more careful and more\nvigilant, not use their authority and trust to feel superior and think\nthat the state is foolish,\u201d he said sharply.<\/p>\n
Prabowo also warned that in this digital age, all financial\ntransactions and bureaucratic processes are closely monitored. He\nbelieves that covering up corrupt practices is impossible because sooner\nor later, they will be uncovered.<\/p>\n
He is most concerned about the social and psychological impact that\nthe children and wives of these officials will have to bear when their\ncases are exposed at the end of their careers.<\/p>\n
Prabowo also stated that this firm and impartial stance applies to\nhis own party, Gerindra. The Chairman of the Gerindra Party welcomes law\nenforcement to investigate and prosecute his party members if they are\nproven to be involved in corruption.<\/p>\n
He also demands the same firmness from high-ranking officials,\ngenerals, and former generals in the TNI and Polri to maintain their\nhonor at the end of their service by providing a good example to the\npublic.<\/p>\n
Prabowo also gave a final warning to all officials who have enjoyed\nassets or money from illegal means to immediately return them\nvoluntarily before the law takes further action.<\/p>\n
