PRESIDENT Prabowo Subianto has allocated Rp 72.75 billion for the\npurchase of meugang cattle\u2014an Acehnese tradition ahead of Ramadan\u2014for\ndisaster-affected communities in Aceh Province. The day before entering\nthe fasting month, the people of the \u201cVeranda of Mecca\u201d traditionally\nslaughter, cook, and enjoy meat together with family and relatives.<\/p>\n
Citing a statement from the Indonesian Government Communication\nAgency, 1,455 meugang cattle were symbolically handed over by the Head\nof the Post-Disaster Accelerated Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR)\nTask Force for Sumatra, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, on Tuesday, 10 February\n2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmid the recovery period, this assistance is a manifestation of the\nPresident\u2019s concern so that the people of Aceh can continue to maintain\nand celebrate the meugang tradition in welcoming Ramadan,\u201d the\nCommunication Agency wrote through its Instagram account @bakom.ri<\/span> on Sunday, 15\nFebruary 2026.<\/p>\n The meugang cattle assistance was provided for 19 regencies\/cities in\nAceh: Lhokseumawe, Aceh Tamiang, Pidie Jaya, East Aceh, Bireuen, Langsa,\nNorth Aceh, West Aceh, Pidie, Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues,\nSoutheast Aceh, Aceh Singkil, Subulussalam, Aceh Besar, Nagan Raya,\nSouth Aceh, and Simeulue.<\/p>\n The Rp 72.5 billion in funds was channeled to the respective Regional\nGeneral Treasury Accounts (RKUD) of each regency\/city in Aceh. The\nCommunication Agency confirmed that the assistance would be distributed\nno later than one day before Ramadan 1447 Hijriyah.<\/p>\n The Aceh Provincial Government stated that the President had\ntransferred the funds for the meugang cattle tradition. \u201cThank God, the\nPresident has approved the request from the Aceh Provincial Government\nand the people of Aceh for meugang beef assistance, and the funds have\nbeen transferred,\u201d said Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah in Banda Aceh on\nWednesday, 11 February 2026, as reported by Antara.<\/p>\n The assistance was channeled through a fund transfer mechanism from\nthe Presidential Secretariat directly to the 19 regency\/city\ngovernments. \u201cSubsequently, the distribution of assistance to the public\nwill be carried out by each regency\/city government,\u201d said\nFadhlullah.<\/p>\n Previously, Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf had requested central\ngovernment assistance to guarantee the availability and stability of\nbeef stocks for meugang. Mualem\u2014as Muzakir Manaf is commonly\nknown\u2014conveyed this during a coordination meeting of the DPR\nPost-Disaster Recovery Task Force in Banda Aceh on Tuesday, 30 December\n2025.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are approaching Ramadan soon, sir. In Aceh, if there is no\nmeugang, no eating meat, it feels like Ramadan isn\u2019t complete,\u201d said\nMualem.<\/p>\n Mualem noted that beef prices in Aceh are the highest in all of\nIndonesia. On normal days, he said, prices reach Rp 200,000 per\nkilogram. Amid the disaster situation, prices could surge even higher.\nThe reason is that many residents lost their livestock due to flash\nfloods and landslides that struck three Sumatran provinces\nsimultaneously at the end of November 2025.<\/p>",
