        "content": "<p>PPS members threaten to quit<\/p>\n<p>KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Dozens of members of the poll<br>\ncommittee (PPS) in Kendari have threatened the local General<br>\nElections Commission (KPU) that they will resign as they are<br>\nlowly paid.<\/p>\n<p>Kiesman Thalib, one of poll committee members from Wakorumba<br>\nsubdistrict here, complained on Thursday that they had been<br>\nworking for six months and they were paid only Rp 40,000 (US$4.7)<br>\nper month.<\/p>\n<p>The job is actually a part-time job.<\/p>\n<p>Kiesman said that the workload was getting heavier in the run<br>\nup to the upcoming elections, and if the honorarium was not<br>\nincreased immediately, they would resign.<\/p>\n<p>For the time being, the committee members have only been<br>\njoining training programs held by KPU and been doing other light<br>\nwork.<\/p>\n<p>But, ahead of the election, they would be much busier, because<br>\nthey have to manage the vote casting and the vote count in the<br>\nelections.<\/p>\n<p>Tumbo Saranani, the chairman of Kendari KPU, said that he<br>\nwould discuss the matter immediately with other members of the<br>\nKPU.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, there are 156 poll committee members in 52<br>\nsubdistricts in Kendari. -- JP<\/p>",
