PPP leader angry with governor<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: Central Java's Governor Soewardi's policy to promote
\nregents who led Golkar to win between 90 percent and 100 percent
\nof votes in their areas in the May general election has drawn
\nfire from a United Development Party (PPP) executive.<\/p>\n
Soewardi has begun fulfilling his promise to promote regents
\nwho helped Golkar win the May 29 election.<\/p>\n
The Kebumen regent, for instance, has had his pay scale
\nincreased to an amount that under the normal conditions, could
\nonly be achieved after at least 12 years employment.<\/p>\n
\"That kind of promotion is unnatural and must be stopped,\"
\nsecretary to PPP's Central Java branch, Harminto Agustono, said
\nover the weekend.<\/p>\n
Harminto demanded that the provincial legislative council
\nraise the issue in its forthcoming sessions.<\/p>\n
\"His (Soewardi's) policy amounts to political arrogance on the
\npart of the government,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The government, which backs Golkar, has always claimed
