The intense struggle between the Nationhood Coalition and the
\nPeople's Coalition over the leadership of House of
\nRepresentatives commissions makes me feel distraught. I wonder
\nwhy legislators are engaged so fiercely in the scramble for power
\namong them.<\/p>\n
The reason put forward by the People's Coalition to secure its
\nshare of power and the argument made by the Nationhood camp to
\nretain its seats are incomprehensible.<\/p>\n
Have the morality and perspective of our politicians already
\ndeteriorated to such a level of absurdity that they play the game
\nof elimination without shame?<\/p>\n
As a nation, we possess doctrines and tenets worthy of
\napplication, such as the principle described by the late Sultan
\nHamengkubuwono IX in his book Tahta untuk Rakyat (A throne for
\nthe people). The politicians can follow the Sultan's example by
\ndeclaring, \"Power for the people\".<\/p>\n
It seems pointless today to yearn for political leaders who
\ncan serve as role models by practicing the wise teachings of our
\nfounding fathers, including the Yogyakarta Sultan.<\/p>\n
