        "content": "<p>Postal firms set strategy<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): State-owned postal firms in the Asian-Pacific<br>\nregion are using a three-day seminar here to formulate strategies<br>\nto compete against private courier services.<\/p>\n<p>\"Huge private courier firms including TNT, UPS and DHL, which<br>\noperate internationally, are the main competitors of state-owned<br>\npostal firms,\" a director of Indonesia's postal firm, Sumitro<br>\nRoestam, said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar, organized by the Asian Pacific Post Business<br>\nCenter (APPBC), is being attended by 32 delegates from 16<br>\ncountries and is scheduled to close today.<\/p>\n<p>The APPBC was set up in February this year by the Asian<br>\nPacific Postal Union, which is under the supervision of the<br>\nSwiss-based Universal Postal Union.<\/p>\n<p>Rustam said that the seminar is trying to formulate general<br>\nstrategies such as the leasing of aircraft from private courier<br>\nfirms.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that postal firms in the Asia-Pacific countries<br>\nshould cooperate more to improve competitiveness.(icn)<\/p>",
