Post office's responsibility<\/p>\n
First, I would like to commend the Indonesian Postal Service
\nfor their generally reliable performance. It has been noted,
\nparticularly by international correspondents, that vast
\nimprovements in service have taken place in recent years.<\/p>\n
However, I find myself in the grip of a situation which under
\nnormal conditions should not present much of a problem. But it is
\nproving to be quite a conundrum.<\/p>\n
Four months ago, on April 8, 1997, two packages were sent from
\nAustralia to Purwakarta, West Java. Unfortunately, although all
\nother details of the address were written in full -- street name
\nand number, suburb, numbers of the RT. and RW., area code, West
\nJava and country -- the name of the town (Purwakarta) was
\nomitted.<\/p>\n
In my experience, undelivered mail anywhere in the world is
\nreturned to the sender. In this case, four months after the date
\nthe packages were sent, they have not appeared here or at the
\naddress of the sender.<\/p>\n
I have inquired at the post office in Purwakarta and shown
\nphotocopied details of the packages that were sent from a post
\noffice in Australia, alas without success.<\/p>\n
The local post office claims to have contacted the G.P.O. in
\nBandung, but received no reply. Further inquiries regarding how I
\ncould extend my search for the packages resulted in a \"hands up\"
\nresponse.<\/p>\n
I have three questions I would like to address to the
\nIndonesian Postal Service:<\/p>\n
1. How do I find my packages?<\/p>\n
2. What is the point of using area codes if they are ignored
\nduring the delivery process?<\/p>\n
3. Why is such a lack of responsibility prevalent in the
\npostal service when a problem like this occurs?<\/p>\n
