\nMinister warns of possible electricity crisis in Java

\nJakarta (ANTARA News) - State Enterprises Minister Sugiharto said an electricity crisis may happen in Java in the next two years unless new power plants are set up.<\/p>\n
\"Java will face an electricity crisis if in two years` time we don`t build new electricity generating plants and oil being used in electricity geneerating plants is not replaced by non-oil energy sources,\" he said on the sidelines of a grand harvest in Subang, West Java.<\/p>\n
He said to anticipate the possibility, the government expected to add around 10,000 MW more to the country`s electricity supply from non-oil generated power plants as part of conversion of around 8,900 MW electricity supply from oil-operated plants.<\/p>\n
The government, he said, would seek non-oil energy sources to assure continuity of electricity supply in Indonesia especially Java.<\/p>\n
\"We will exploit gas or coal which are abundant in the country,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The peak of electricity use in the Java-Bali system of electricity supply in 2005 reached 15,830 MW while capacity installed by state electricity company PLN reached 19,615 MW and electricity power that could be distributed reached 18,398MW.<\/p>\n
