Poso blast suspects arrested, linked to Mamasa riot<\/p>\n

Central Sulawesi Police have confirmed that three suspects
\narrested recently in connection with two Poso bomb attacks were
\nalso on the police wanted list for allegedly sparking an April 24
\nriot in Mamasa, West Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
Police chief Brig. Gen. Aryanto Sutadi said on Wednesday his
\nmen had arrested three men, Suryadi, Saifullah and Sucipto, upon
\nthe request of the South Sulawesi Police for their alleged roles
\nin the Mamasa riot.<\/p>\n
\"We confirmed their status after an intensive joint
\ninvestigation with the South Sulawesi Police,\" Aryanto was quoted
\nas saying by Antara.<\/p>\n
The suspects were arrested in Pandajaya village, Poso. Another
\nsuspect, identified as Sofa or Izarudin, remains at large.<\/p>\n
At least four people were killed when an armed group attacked
\nRanu subdistrict, Mamasa, in the newly established West Sulawesi
\nprovince. The South Sulawesi Police are currently overseeing the
\npolice in the new province.<\/p>\n
Amiruddin, a suspect in the Mamasa riot who was arrested soon
\nafter the rampage, led the police to the three men.<\/p>\n
Poso, a region still licking its wounds from the bloody
\nsectarian conflict that occurred between 1999 and 2001, was
\nrocked by two small bombs in two separate locations on Thursday
\nlast week. There were no injuries reported.<\/p>\n
The first blast occurred at about 7:50 p.m., damaging the non-
\ngovernmental offices for the Center for Conflict Resolution and
\nPeace, while the second bomb was detonated two hours later,
\ncausing damage to the offices of another activist group, the
\nInstitute for the Empowerment of Civil Society.<\/p>\n
Aryanto denied speculation one of the suspects was also
\ninvolved in the bomb attack on the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta
\nin August 2003.<\/p>\n
\"So far there is no evidence that connects any of the suspects
\nwith international terrorist groups,\" Aryanto said.<\/p>\n
Separately, National Police detectives chief Comr. Gen.
\nSuyitno Landung said a special team dispatched to Central and
\nSouth Sulawesi had found proof that one of the three suspects
\narrested was directly linked to the Mamasa riot. He would not
\nidentify that person.<\/p>\n
He said homemade bombs found in the suspects' hideout were
\nexplosives of the same type that went off in Poso.<\/p>\n
\"Those bombs contain explosives commonly used by fishermen to
\ncatch fish,\" Suyitno said.<\/p>\n
Police were studying the possibility that the group which
\ninstigated the Mamasa riot was linked to other violent incidents
\nin Poso during the past few months, he said.<\/p>",
