Portuguese experts are here<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A group of Portuguese experts arrived here on
\nFriday to help preserve Portuguese heritage in the country, an
\nexecutive said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Joao Pedro Garcia, director of the international department of
\nthe Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation which focuses on preserving
\nPortuguese heritage worldwide, said the group of three experts
\nwould be in Indonesia for one week.<\/p>\n
\"It's an initial step that we just visit all heritage sites
\nhere,\" Garcia said after a discussion with city officials
\nrepresented by, among others, head of the Jakarta Historical
\nMuseum Tinia Budiati and head of the Textile Museum Dewi Rudiati.<\/p>\n
During their visit, the group, which includes architect Joao
\nCampos and adviser of the National Museum of Ancient Art in
\nLisbon Maria Helena, Mendes Pinto, will visit Jepara in Central
\nJava, Yogyakarta and Flores island in East Nusa Tenggara.<\/p>\n
Garcia said he had yet to decide on the next step to be taken
\nafter the first visit.<\/p>\n
In a move to improve Portuguese-Indonesian relations,
\nPortuguese Ambassador Ana Gomes said last month that her
\ngovernment would assist with the preservation of its colonial
\nheritage here.<\/p>\n
However, information on the number of Portuguese heritage
\nsites has been unavailable up to Saturday. (ind)<\/p>",
