        "content": "<p>Port management, customs office to boost services<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II, the state-owned firm<br>\nwhich manages the Tanjung Priok port and the Directorate General<br>\nof Customs and Excise yesterday assured importers that they would<br>\ncontinue improving services at the harbor.<\/p>\n<p>\"Pelabuhan and the customs office will improve coordination<br>\nand simplify procedures to help expedite the flow of imported<br>\ngoods at Tanjung Priok port,\" the port management company's<br>\npresident, Amir Harbani, told reporters after chairing a closed-<br>\ndoor three-hour meeting with electronics importers yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by port and customs officials,<br>\nexecutives of the Indonesian Importers' Association, the<br>\nIndonesian Freight and Forwarder Association and the Indonesian<br>\nElectronics Association and officials from the Directorate<br>\nGeneral of Sea Transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Executives of electronics companies PT Samsung Metrodata<br>\nElectronics, PT National Gobel, PT Sony Electronics Indonesia,<br>\nPT Maspion and PT Sharp Yasonta Indonesia also participated in<br>\nyesterday's meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Amir said that a number of meeting participants raised<br>\ncomplaints over poor handling at the container terminal due to<br>\ncomplicated bureaucratic procedures and poor berthing schedules,<br>\nwhich have often caused congestions and affected their business<br>\nactivities.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will make inventories of the customers' complaints and try<br>\nto make improvements,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Amir, Pelabuhan agreed to provide more locations<br>\nwithin the port for unloading goods.<\/p>\n<p>\"There are many locations (depots) within the port, with a<br>\ntotal capacity of about 10,500 twenty equivalent units (TEUs) and<br>\nthe container yard with a capacity of 24,000 TEUs,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>\"At the moment, the occupancy rate in the depots within the<br>\nforwarding ring is just 40 percent and we will allow a maximum of<br>\n70 percent,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Amir also said that the Directorate General of Customs and<br>\nExcise also agreed yesterday to provide better service by<br>\nsimplifying its procedures.<\/p>\n<p>He said such a meeting would be held periodically, probably<br>\nonce every two or three months, to create better services.
