        "content": "<p>'Poros Indonesia' members could be sacked: Theo<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI<br>\nPerjuangan) deputy chairman Theo Syafei threatened to dismiss<br>\nparty members who join splinter group \"Poros Indonesia\" and<br>\npursue policies contrary to the party.<\/p>\n<p>\"They could be given warning letters and even fired if their<br>\nstatements go against party policy,\" Theo announced after a<br>\nmeeting at the party's headquarters on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the party still considered \"Poros Indonesia\"<br>\n(Indonesia Axis) as only a faction within the party, rejecting<br>\nthat the group is a breakaway faction of the party.<\/p>\n<p>\"We don't think that the group is a big problem. A faction<br>\nwithin a political party is common and a natural phenomenon,\" the<br>\nretired lieutenant general said.<\/p>\n<p>He also refuted the group's claim that PDI Perjuangan former<br>\ntreasurer and former minister of investment and state enterprises<br>\ndevelopment Laksamana Sukardi had joined the group.<\/p>\n<p>He said Laksamana earlier pledged to remain loyal to the<br>\nparty.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Poros Indonesia supporter Mochtar Buchori brushed<br>\naside Theo's threat, saying the group was founded to uphold<br>\ndemocratization and to correct irregularities within the party.<\/p>\n<p>\"If we are dismissed because we are struggling for democracy,<br>\nit's OK,\" Mochtar, formerly head of the party's research and<br>\ndevelopment body, told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>He said the group would officially be launched on June 6 to<br>\ncoincide with the birthday of the country's first president,<br>\nSukarno.<\/p>\n<p>He said the group, which was initiated by party legislators<br>\nMeliono Suwondo and Haryanto Taslam, also included people outside<br>\nthe party.<\/p>\n<p>Meliono and Taslam are the party's former deputy treasurer and<br>\ndeputy secretary-general.<\/p>\n<p>Film director Eros Djarot, who challenged Megawati<br>\nSoekarnoputri as party chairperson in a recent congress two<br>\nmonths ago in Semarang, has also reportedly joined the group.<br>\n(jun)<\/p>",
