Population data base planned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Office of the State Minister of Population
\nplans to launch an on-line data base service supplying
\ninformation about the Indonesian population.<\/p>\n
The service will also integrate data from other information
\nsystems, Loet Affandi, the secretary to the State Minister of
\nPopulation Haryono Suyono, said.<\/p>\n
\"The Information System on Population and Family (Siduga) aims
\nto integrate all related data and information in one network
\nwhich will be run on a partnership basis and as an open access
\nservice,\" said Loet Affandi yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"By developing an on-line information system, we hope to
\novercome the problems of time and distance in tracing accurate
\ninformation through the 'Siduga-net',\" Affandi said.<\/p>\n
The system is designed to support \"a more conducive
\natmosphere ... to improve the quality of the population as actors
\nin development.\"<\/p>\n
Affandi, who is also deputy for general affairs at the
\nNational Family Planning Board, was speaking during a meeting
\nwith legislators of Commission VIII on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The service, will select data from at least 10 other systems
\ndeveloped by other ministries, including a data base on youth and
\nsports and housing. Data will also include information supplied
\nby the Central Statistics Bureau.<\/p>\n
Twenty categories will be covered by the system, including
\nfamily planning statistics, employment, urban-rural migration,
\nand health and environment quality. Reference to population
\nmatters will also be included.<\/p>\n
\"Information will also be collected from conference reports
\nbesides routine data collecting,\" Affandi said. (anr)<\/p>",
