        "content": "<p>Pope ordains East Timor bishop<\/p>\n<p>VATICAN CITY (AFP): Pope John Paul II ordained 12 bishops<br>\nyesterday including a second bishop for Indonesia&apos;s province of<br>\nEast Timor.<\/p>\n<p>Monsignor Basilio do Nascimento, former assistant to 1996<br>\nNobel peace prize laureate Bishop Carlos Ximenes Belo, becomes<br>\nthe bishop of the newly created Baucau diocese in East Timor<br>\nlocated east of the capital Dili.<\/p>\n<p>Do Nascimento told the Lisbon daily Diario de Noticias that<br>\ndialog is &quot;the only way&quot; to resolve the problems of the Catholic<br>\nmajority population in East Timor, a former Portuguese colony<br>\nwhich integrated into Indonesia in 1976.<\/p>\n<p>Dili remains the principal East Timor diocese, with 500,000<br>\nCatholics, while the Baucau diocese, created late last month by<br>\nthe Vatican, counts 200, 000.<\/p>\n<p>The other new bishops ordained on Monday included five<br>\nItalians, one Indian, one Togolese, one Polish, one Albanian, one<br>\nSwiss and one Romanian.<\/p>",
