The highest leader of the\nCatholic Church also called for strict regulation of AI and urged\ndevelopers to prioritise human welfare over mere business profits. This\nwas communicated through the Vatican\u2019s official document titled\n\u201cMagnifica Humanitas\u201d or \u201cMagnificent Humanity\u201d, released on Monday (25\nMay 2026) local time. This marks Pope Leo XIV\u2019s first encyclical since\nhis election as leader of the Catholic Church. Unlike ordinary papal\nspeeches or statements, an encyclical is one of the most important and\nhighest-ranking official documents in the Catholic Church. The contents\nof an encyclical typically convey the Church\u2019s official views,\nteachings, or stance on major global issues. Given that it is written\ndirectly by the Catholic Church\u2019s leader, who oversees approximately 1.4\nbillion followers worldwide, encyclicals typically carry significant\ninfluence beyond the religious sphere, extending into politics, society,\neconomy, and technology.
