Ankara (ANTARA) - Pope Leo XIV has called for an end to the war in\nIran and urged world leaders to prioritise dialogue over military\naction.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a joint prayer at St Peter\u2019s Basilica on Saturday\n(11\/4), the Pope stated, \u201cEnough with the worship of self and money!\nEnough with flaunting power! Enough with war!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTrue strength is shown by serving life,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The Pope did not mention specific leaders directly, but criticised\nactions that he described as something \u201cboasted by some adults,\u201d\nreferring to the humanitarian impact of the conflict.<\/p>\n
\u201cI receive many letters from children in conflict zones \u2026 Let us\nlisten to the voices of children!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The statement follows comments by Pope Leo XIV some time ago, in\nwhich he warned that \u201cthe entire civilisation will die\u201d if the Strait of\nHormuz remains closed, describing it as \u201ccompletely unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pope Leo also called on leaders to engage in negotiations to end the\nconflict.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe call on them, stop! This is the time for peace! Sit at the table\nof dialogue and mediation,\u201d he said, while reminding leaders to avoid\ndecisions \u201cthat plan rearmament and deadly actions.\u201d<\/p>\n
The United States (US) and Israel launched joint attacks against Iran\non 28 February, which in recent weeks have killed more than 3,000\npeople, including the then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, until a\nceasefire was reached mediated by Pakistan this week.<\/p>\n
Tehran retaliated against the US-Israel offensive by launching drones\nand missiles targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf\ncountries hosting US military assets, as a form of self-defence, and\nrestricted ship movements in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
The US and Iran also held talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Saturday\n(11\/4) to end the war permanently, but no agreement has been reached\nyet.<\/p>\n
