Poor drainage system leads to flooding<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Relatively small amounts of rainfall left many
\nstreets in the capital, including Jl. Fatmawati in South Jakarta,
\nflooded on Friday, causing bumper-to-bumper traffic across the
\ncity.<\/p>\n
Traffic congestion, which has become a routine sight since
\nthe beginning of the annual rainy season, was seen on major
\nthoroughfares such as Jl. Thamrin and Jl. Sudirman, and in
\nnumerous locations, including Slipi and Senayan.<\/p>\n
The flooding is mainly the result of the poor construction of
\nthe city's drainage system.<\/p>\n
In Tubagus Angke, Jembatan Dua, West Jakarta, two people,
\nincluding a bajaj (three-wheeled motorized vehicle) driver, were
\ninjured after an economy-class train traveling from Kota to
\nRangkas Bitung in West Java hit a truck and a minivan stuck in
\ntraffic at a railway crossing.<\/p>\n
According to the truck driver, Dodi, the guard at the crossing
\ndid not close the gates or alert motorists that a train was
\napproaching.<\/p>\n
\"Nobody knew the train was coming,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Witnesses and local police said the bajaj driver was injured
\nafter his vehicle was hit by Dodi's truck, which was smashed in
\nthe rear by the train.<\/p>\n
The victims were rushed to Husada and Atma Jaya hospitals.
