Indonesia's National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) is pushing to simplify vehicle tax payments nationwide, inspired by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi's initiative that waives the need for the original owner's ID during renewals. Taxpayers in West Java can now renew by simply presenting their vehicle registration (STNK), with a temporary tolerance on ID requirements but an obligation to transfer ownership soon. This policy, if approved at the upcoming Samsat coordination meeting in Semarang, would require a declaration form from owners and aims to make the process as straightforward as topping up mobile phone credit, potentially boosting compliance and efficiency across the country.

BOGOR, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps
(Korlantas Polri) intends to simplify the vehicle tax payment process to
avoid burdening taxpayers. This is particularly in light of West Java
Governor Dedi Mulyadi’s programme, which eliminates the requirement to
bring the original owner’s ID for annual motor vehicle tax payments.
Korlantas Polri Chief Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho
stated that taxpayers in West Java now only need to bring their vehicle
registration (STNK) when renewing at the Samsat office. “So, the
one-year ID requirement is given tolerance, but with the obligation to
transfer the name as soon as possible,” he added. According to
Kompas.com records, the Director of Registration and Identification at
Korlantas Polri, Wibowo, explained that this policy will be discussed in
a national forum and has the potential to be implemented across
Indonesia. “We will implement it nationally later. I will convey it at
the Samsat Coordination Meeting, which happens to be held next week in
Semarang,” said Wibowo. If agreed upon, the policy will apply
nationally, although temporarily. In its implementation, taxpayers must
still meet several administrative requirements, one of which is by
making a vehicle ownership declaration letter. “Taxpayers can fill out
the form stating that the vehicle is yours, you are willing to be
blocked, and you are ready to carry out the name transfer process next
year,” said Wibowo.
",
