Polluted school<\/p>\n

I was sad to see the picture entitled Polluted School in The
\nJakarta Post, Sept. 23, 1994. The caption reveals that the
\nconstruction of the Taman Rasuna apartments creates pollution.<\/p>\n

As far as I am aware, the primary school pupils, who have been
\ntransferred to a nearby school, have been deprived of their right
\nto study peacefully. They deserve an environment which is free of
\ndust and noise while they study. Students are an essential part
\nof our national development.<\/p>\n

In recent years, we can't have missed reports of land
\ndisputes, pollution and other violations due to physical
\ndevelopment in the local dailies.<\/p>\n

In relation to this matter, it has seemingly become an
\neveryday phenomenon now that the economic powers that be ignore
\npublic facilities when they construct new buildings. I had been
\nunder the impression that they were leaving educational
\nfacilities alone. It seems I was wrong.<\/p>\n
