Political education<\/p>\n
In his speech at the closing of the Congress of the PPP
\n(United Development Party), last week, Vice President Try
\nSutrisno said the party should continue to conduct political
\neducation for its younger members so as to produce reliable
\nagents of development, who are sensitive to the problems facing
\nthe nation and who possess a well-defined concept of nationalism.<\/p>\n
The congress has re-elected H. Ismail Hasan Metareum as
\ngeneral chairman of the party's executive board for the 1994-1999
\nperiod.<\/p>\n
As one of the pillars of Pancasila democracy, PPP should play
\na more active role in the people's political education, so that
\nthe people know not only their rights but also their
\nresponsibilities as loyal citizens.<\/p>\n
The urgent task is to motivate people to do everything in
\ntheir power to enhance their welfare -- materially and
\nspiritually.<\/p>\n
In the context of globalization, in which competitiveness is a
\npre-requisite, we have to be consistent in the national system of
\nlife that is based on the principles of Pancasila and the 1945
\nConstitution.<\/p>\n
